About Elizabeth

Experience

I am an educator certified in elementary and special education. I studied at Western Washington University’s Woodring College of Education and am Orton-Gillingham trained

From 2018-2021, after working as a teacher in the Northshore, Lake Washington, and Everett Public School Districts, I wanted to work more closely with families and students 1:1 or in small group settings. My goal as an educator is to connect and create relationships with my students, while collaborating with families to make your child’s education a more personable experience.

In 2022, I became trained in the Orton-Gillingham method from IMSE (Institute for Multi-Sensory Education) to learn more about how the brain functions and how we as educators can teach children to read in a more structured approach based on science. I am passionate about using the skills I have learned to help students “crack the code” and become proficient readers. I have witnessed the incredible difference that reading success can make for a child’s self-confidence and happiness.

You can say that teaching children to read is my passion, but I also have skills and strategies that will help your child become confident writers and mathematicians through practice and real life applications.

Mission

My mission as an educator is to support my learners’ love for learning and ensuring they are reaching their fullest potential. Therefore, you can expect me to work alongside you to guarantee your child is receiving the best possible support.

Teaching Style

Just as important as having the knowledge that will help your child read, write, and grow as a mathematician, I try to help children feel comfortable and find the fun in each subject! I have a warm and friendly approach that helps children relax and be able to hang in there with the unavoidable frustrations that come with a challenging skill. I Incorporate hands-on activities and games to keep your child motivated and interested. I customize every lesson to your child’s unique needs. I take detailed notes and data during each lesson, which allows me to monitor trouble areas. I keep a careful eye on progress, analyze error patterns, and build on strengths.

Practical Matters

I will send you my schedule which includes pricing and specific dates and times. I typically recommend at least two sessions per week depending on your child’s specific needs; see FAQ for class frequency recommendations. Classes are typically held in students’ homes, public libraries, or held via Zoom online.

A Little Fun Blurb!

When I’m not teaching, I enjoy going on long drives around Washington with my 5-year-old son. My favorite part is discovering farms on the side of the road with animals and a small ice cream shop!

Thanks for visiting and I hope to connect with you soon!
